Some prelim stuff

Thought I'd post some prelim sketches here that i'm doing for commissions. These two are pretty much done as i've already inked and colored them. Maybe just a few more touch ups here and there and they'll be on their way to their owner. Also have a Batman in the works that I have yet to scan in yet. Holidays are here and I've got plenty to do in the next few weeks. I've got some Betty Page cards to finish up and some Star Wars work as well by the end of the month. More updates coming soon. Stay tuned.

A re-post of Sketchbooks available

Well, I'm doing something this year that's a bit different for me. I have two variants of my yearly sketchbook. One is a softcover perfect bound version, 112 pages and the other is a 116 page Hardcover version. Now, what sets these two books apart is that the hardcover will be in a limited number that comes with an original sketch. The original sketch will be done in grayscale. Now, the sketch can be customized with a commission if you would like it to. Some will be done with already a sketch to purchase and others will be left blank for your commission. These books will be available in April on my website and at conventions. The softcover will be priced at $25 on the website at shows and the Hardcover Special Edition sketchbook will be $50 on my site and at shows. I love how these books came out. Since it's the end of the year and am reviewing what I do every year, I have to say that I was happy as to how well both the softcover and hardcover books have done for the year. It's no million dollars or anything, but am very pleased with the reception of them both. For both editions, this is in a sense an ending and a beginning. It's a culmination of new and old and it's a way to put a wrap on the last five or 6yrs. As for the future, I have new plans and goals for this coming year that are both challenging to myself. There is always something new to discover about oneself, and I am doing mine.
Peace,

FX Final Wraparound Cover

First, I want to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving today. Second, I wanted to share with everyone the final color wraparound cover to the graphic novel to hit the stand around the 22nd of December. I have to say that this is one of my favorite pieces i've done recently. I pretty much did everything from the thumbnails to the inks and final color, a total of about 3 days. Can't recall as to how tired I was in getting it done for the deadline, but i'm very pleased with how it came out. Also, the book can be ordered thru Amazon as well. Here is the link for that

MID OHIO CON REVIEW

What can I say about this year's Mid Ohio Con. It was a BLAST! Ever since the new owners have taken over, the Mid Ohio has taken on a new atmosphere and enthusiasm. I was quite surprised by how many people were walking through the convention doors to enjoy the two day show, or three, if you consider the pre-con party. I was asked to do a panel on pinup art with Dave Nester and Jay Fife. The panel itself was good. We all were just drawing upon our own experience in the field and the crowd appeared to be interested in what we were talking about. I've never done a panel before, but have no problem talking about what I do in front of a crowd. Over the years of going to shows, it has become easier and easier. I was quite busy as I was bombarded with commission requests. I think I did around 9-10 full sized pieces for the weekend, all in greyscale, except for a Deathbird sketchcard. All in all, it was a great weekend. I had current and former students stop by my table and they all seemed pretty excited about being at the show. I was glad that they showed up as there's nothing better than being at a show and getting a feel for what it is you want to get into for a career. It's the best thing ever. I'll be posting more later about the show, but for now i'll get to posting some pieces for now. Enjoy!

Joker the Jokeman

Thought I'd post this here. It sold at auction at Heroes Con. Eventhough the Joker is not my favorite character, but when I get to draw him, something comes over me and a little bit of my personality gets integrated in the piece somehow :)

MID OHIO CON, NOV. 6-7

This weekend is going to be a blast! Mid Ohio is celebrating it's 30th year of existence. They've gathered one heck of a guest list of pros from the industry. All tables are sold out, which is awesome! I remember growing up and seeing ads of my favorite artists such as Byrne, Austin, Leondardi listed as being artists for the Mid-Ohio and just dreamed of not wanting to only be a part of it, but also just being able to go. But that was me being a kid. But now, having been a part of many shows in past, this year's Mid-Ohio show is looking to be one of the best this year. See you there!

FX2 The Lost Land Cover-The INKS

Here is the inked version I thought to put up here. The idea behind this one was KING KONG inspired. My thought process for this one was that I was thinking about all those movie posters I grew up seeing and still love seeing today and try to capture the feel of the book with this one image.I think I succeeded. Y'know, I like the way I ink, but I definitely take too long to ink a piece like this. I knew time was running short, but I didn't want to wane on the quality. This took me about 12hrs. to ink. I do need to get faster though. Enjoy.

FX2 The Lost Land Cover prelim and pencils

Since the book will be coming out soon, thought to post the cover pencils and a prelim study. I changed a few things from the prelim as I thought it was too busy for me.

The Huntress and Spring Con

How Awesome was Spring Con? It was just great! I'm not going to go into too much detail here, but I am definitely looking forward to more Spring Con shows. I not only love the atmosphere of the Twin Cities, but also the friends that I have there who make it that much better. As far as the show itself, it's definitely one of the best shows that i've attended over the years of my con experience. There are others shows that stand out to me in my mind such as Baltimore and Heroes Con that are really attentive to their guests and the customers/patrons/people that come to check out the show are all the more enjoyable to chat with. But anyways, here is one of the pieces that I did at the show during Spring Con. Enjoy

P-P-P POWERGIRL on FREE COMIC BOOK DAY

A day spent at Packrat Comics is always a great experience when they have get togethers for events such as Free Comic Book Day. It's almost like a mini-convention with great talents in the local area. This is piece of Powergirl was done for someone who always seem to get a commission from myself at shows. This one wasn't any different. This one one of three sketches I did today. The other two were sketchcards of Batman and Superman, which I forgot to take photos of. I love doing con style sketches for folks who appreciates your work. Thanks to everyone.

MEEEEOWWWW!

A recent Catwoman commission that was long overdue, due to the fact that I am working on a series called FX to be published by IDW later this summer/early fall. But anyways, this piece is in color for the final, but I like to show the work in stages. Here's one of them for your viewing pleasure :)

had to delete last blog

Y'know, sometimes I just hate people. I swear. You just try to do some simple things online like keep people up to date on what it is you're doing and BAM! All of a sudden people just want to hijack your blog and get it redirected to some other place. Some people are just plain evil. So anyways, hope this one stays for a while. Will post new stuff shortly.
thanks for stopping by :)
